The Lynchmere Society hosted the open day so that more people could see the historical site, the origins of which date back to the late 17th century, as proved by the timber framing and carpenter’s marks.
At the open day, visitors admired the Sussex and belted Galloway cows with their calves, as well as the 38 heritage apple, quince, plum, crab and nut trees, and the newly planted conservation hedge.

Hide AdThe barn’s age, and its importance as an example of the survival of a group of historic farm buildings, means that it is important that the barn should be preserved.
Its position on a well used footpath and on an important historical route gives adds significance to its preservation.
As the potential costs are high, the Lychmere Society will be fundraising for its preservation.
Although the group can provide the first £30,000 towards this goal, a sum which will cover under pinning the leaning west stone wall, repairing guttering and pipes to drain water clear from the foundations, replacing the north doors and renewing metal sheeting, much more needs to be done.
