Huw keeps Bexhill and Battle blue
The Conservatives held on to Bexhill and Battle with a comfortable win.
Daylight was breaking through the curtains at the De La Warr Pavilion when Huw Merriman was announced as the man to follow in the footsteps of long-standing MP Greg Barker.
The 41-year-old won 30,245 votes. Geoffrey Bastin (UKIP) came second with 10,170, followed by Labour’s Michelle Thew with 7,797, Lib Dem Rachel Sadler with 4,199 and Jonathon Kent, Green, with 2,807.
Voter turnout was 70.5 percent - up on the 2010 General Election which saw a turnout of 68.9 percent.
