Year 2 enjoyed a Victorian Day last week as part of their learning journey about Victorian childhood. They experienced drills, writing on slates, dunces hats, being addressed by their surnames and even the cane (although it wasn’t actually used on anybody). Some of the children said they would like school to be like the Victorian school every day.
SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: (One of the three Trinity churches). Last Thursday was the Feast of St Michael the Archangel, South Malling’s patron saint. The Bible tells us that Michael is leader of the army of the Lord and was instrumental in defeating the army of Satan when he challenged God for supremacy following the Creation of the World. Early Christians chose him as their patron as they struggled with their pagan neighbours in the 6th and 7th centuries the people of Sussex were among the last to be converted to Christianity in England, after the Romans had left. There will be a relatively informal Communion Service this coming Sunday, led by the Associate Vicar, Revd Jeremy Bamber. It is designed to be inclusive; children leave the service after the first hymn, for their Children’s Club in the tower room and return to their parents for the communion and conclusion. The service begins at 9.30am as usual and all are welcome.
