New memorial garden opens in Chichester

A DEDICATED space has been created for residents on a Chichester estate to honour the memory of their loved ones.

Whyke Memorial Garden was officially opened by Chichester mayor Peter Budge. Graham Matthews, president of Chichester Royal British Legion, launched the ceremony with a remembrance speech and the garden was blessed by the Rev Tim Prescott.

The idea for the garden came from resident Dave Tilley, identified a piece of land that residents could use for the garden and approached Hyde Property Services.

He said: “The Memorial Garden has given the residents of Whyke somewhere special to remember those who have passed; somewhere to visit, sit and be peaceful.

“It also makes good use of the land. With the help of Hyde Property Services, our community has come together and worked to improve the estate.”

Paul Woodham, director of Hyde Property Services, said: “The project presented an opportunity for Hyde to support and involve our residents living on the Whyke Estate.

“This is a good example of how we can work in partnership to strengthen the community.”
