Hurst have a strong history in the competition and in 2014 won every gold medal available. This year, Hurst took the largest team the competition has ever seen and for the first time the College’s team included an all-girl Junior team.
The trip started with three days of race training and each student had the opportunity to train and race in three different disciplines. The first of these was the Giant Slalom. Hurst showed their strength in depth as they had medallists in the U13, U16 and U18 categories.

There was even more success in the Slalom as Hurst students made the podium all the way from the U13 Girls to the Boys Open categories, notching up another six individual silvers, two individual golds and another team silver.
The final discipline was the very competitive Parallel Slalom, where teams of five race against each other side by side in a relay fashion. After winning all of their group matches Hurst A faced off against Hurst C in the first semi-final. After a close call for the A-team including one skier finishing on one ski they were through to face KCS Wimbledon in the final. In a race where the lead changed hands multiple times it was Hurst who came out as the winners by three metres.
Director of Outdoor Education, Fred Simkins, said, “It was amazing to come away from the Championships with 14 individual and three team medals but more importantly it was great to see so many students competing and being successful across all age groups and disciplines.”
