Jake Arnott, author of the cult hit The Long Firm, will be discussing his new novel, The Fatal Tree, published in February to rave reviews.
Based on the pungent streets of 18th century London, this time there is a woman at the centre of his tale: Elizabeth Lyon, aka notorious Edgworth Bess, and her partner in crime, jail-breaker Jack Sheppard.

Hide AdDrawing on a true story, Arnott blends fact and fiction as he weaves his tale of lust, love and treachery in the murky Georgian underworld.
Writer Polly Clark makes her debut with Larchfield, about a young poet’s struggle with isolation that’s skilfully woven into the story of fellow poet W H Auden. It’s based on the author’s own experience of moving to Helensburgh in Scotland, where she found a connection with Auden that changed her life.
Tickets include a delicious English-style supper created by Tina Horvath of CanTina Brighton, and a free glass of wine. Doors open at 6.45pm and the event will be held at The Barn, Lodge Hill Lane, Ditchling.
